Imminent arrival of new virus strain is reason for the unvaccinated to take the jab, PM says

As more and more countries confirm the emergence of the new COVID-19 strain – the Omicron – Prime Minister Gaston Browne is further encouraging residents to get vaccinated.

While it has not been determined that this mutation is resistant to vaccines, Browne says the drugs in stock have proven to protect persons from COVID-19.

In the event that it is not resistant, he is pleased

that a large percentage of the population has already been inoculated. However, others should get vaccinated in order to avoid falling seriously ill, he says.

In particular, the Prime Minister encourages unvaccinated frontline workers, especially those in the medical field, to get inoculated and to do so with haste.

Browne notes that a busy tourist season will see significantly more people coming from the already impacted countries. Therefore, residents will have to be more vigilant in protecting themselves, their families and, by extension, the Nation, he says.
