CMO, PRINCIPAL NURSING OFFICE, & HEAD OF HOSPITAL LAB RECEIVE ROUND-TWO VACCINATION; CABINET TO FOLLOW ON THURSDAY

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr. Rhonda Sealy-Thomas, has again made history as the very first person in the country to receive the second dose of the AstraZeneca Vaccine.

The official roll-out of the second dose commenced today, Wednesday, May 12, and this is what Dr. Sealy-Thomas had to say immediately following her second jab.

The CMO spoke about the importance of the second vaccination, and encouraged those who have not yet been vaccinated to take part in the campaign.

Dr. Sealy-Thomas said the second dose is required in order to increase the efficacy of the vaccine and boost protection against the virus.  The COVID-19 drugs are intended to prevent serious illness, hospitalization and death, health officials say.

Also taking her second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine was the Principal Nursing Officer, Nurse Margaret Smith.

She said that vaccines have been known to save lives, and so she, too, urged residents to get inoculated.

Meanwhile, Dr. Lester Simon, the Chair of the National Technical Working Group and the head of the hospital’s laboratory, received his second dose among other healthcare workers.

On Thursday, May 13, after second doses have been administered to medical practitioners, Cabinet members will receive theirs at the Office of the Prime Minister.

Retired parliamentarians are scheduled to follow on Saturday, May 15, at the Parliament Building.
