NODS SHIPS SECOND CONTAINER-LOAD OF RELIEF SUPPLIES TO RESIDENTS OF ST. VINCENT; WATER REPORTEDLY IN HIGH DEMAND

The National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) has sent a second shipment of relief supplies to our volcano-stricken neighbour, St. Vincent & The Grenadines.

A container left St. John’s on Monday night, April 19, NODS officials say, with items such as water, water tanks, water containers, chlorine, blankets, sheets, toiletries, baby items and dry goods.

A similar shipment left the island last week.

Meanwhile, NODS say that vessels transporting relief items to St. Vincent via sea must meet all border-security protocols, as normal, since this is a major concern for authorities in St. Vincent.

Officials say “this is to facilitate the management of inbound traffic to avoid unnecessary delay and ensure adherence to local COVID protocols.”

NODS is thanking the groups and individuals who contributed to this shipment of supplies, and encourages others who wish to assist with the relief effort to contact its office.

Reports coming out of the volcano-ravaged country say there is a pressing need for water – including for the use of the animals – since the atmosphere is extremely hot and humid and even the ash on the ground remains very warm.

One man featured in a documentary there says residents must drink constantly – “water, water, water” – to stay hydrated.
