LOVELL APPALLED BY PM BROWNE’S ‘POPULATION – EXPANSION

Scores of residents, as well as the opposition parties, are criticizing Prime Minister Gaston Browne for what they consider distasteful comments about the women of St. Vincent, who were invited here to escape volcanic activity in their island.

In a Facebook chat on Saturday, April 10, Browne said he has already told his counterpart, Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves, to send “all the young pretty ladies” here since this country’s population needs to be expanded.

And in banter with another person, the Prime Minister told the man that “Vincie women too cute for you; your drooling is in vain.”

Harold Lovell, the Political Leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), says he is appalled by Browne’s comments.

Lovell considers Browne’s comments very insensitive, taking into consideration what the people of St. Vincent are now facing.

Antigua and Barbuda has undertaken to accommodate 250 Vincentian nationals who have been displaced from their homes.
