Symister accuses Government of giving away the country, alleging that it waived transfer fees on sale of Barbuda lands

Attorney-at-law Leon Chaku Symister is condemning what he terms the continued wholesale giveaway of Antigua and Barbuda by the Labour Party government.

Making specific reference to the Peace Love and Happiness (PLH) project on the sister-island, Symister accuses the Gaston Browne Administration of waiving the transfer-of-property fees.

In land transactions, the seller usually pays 7.5 percent, while the buyer pays 2.5 percent of the 10 percent total due to the Government.

However, in this case, Symister alleges that the investors are selling land for hundreds of thousands of US dollars – but the people of this country are not benefiting from the sales, he claims.

Not even the Barbuda Council, which owes its workers for weeks on end, is benefiting from the project, Symister says.
