GARD Centre receives first donation towards its build-back effort from UPP Women and Welfare groups

The Gilberts Agricultural and Rural Development (GARD) Centre received the
first contribution to its build-back initiative today, June 26, compliments the
United Progressive Party’s Women’s Forum and its Welfare Group.

The 24-inch electric stove is the first replacement appliance donated to the
Centre, which was broken into and “cleaned out” of equipment, appliances and
materials over the June 15 weekend.

Following that unfortunate incident, the Centre appealed to the public for
assistance in its build-back drive, pledging that it would rise again and
contribute to the country’s social and economic development.

Accepting the contribution on behalf of GARD was Executive Director June
Jackson, and handing over the appliance were UPP Welfare Officer Gladys
Potter and Women’s Forum Chair Joanne David.

Jackson says she is not only grateful that the Party has gotten the donation ball
rolling, but she is very optimistic that it will now encourage others to give, as
well.

She notes that several past donors have pledged to help the Centre to recover,
and this first contribution is inspiring her to get the list of necessities out
there.

Meanwhile, Potters invoked God’s blessing upon the appliance in the
expectation that other good gifts will flow to the GARD Centre.
Individuals and businesses who are able to donate to the effort are
encouraged call 463-4121 to do so.
