Single-vehicle accident downs power lines and closes section of Friars Hill Road on Friday morning

A major section of one of the country’s busiest thoroughfares, the Friars Hill
Road, was closed to traffic earlier this morning, Friday, May 24, due to a one-
vehicle accident.

Reports say the accident resulted in fallen power lines, as a utility pole was cut
in two from the impact of a pick-up truck that slammed into it.

Accordingly, officials were forced to close that section of the road due to the
danger posed by the fallen utility lines, even though electricity was turned off
in the area.

Messages went out in various group chats, alerting others to the blockage of
the roadway and giving advice about alternative routes to St. John’s.

Apparently, a diversion was created on a by-road in the area, which persons
say is small and difficult to maneuver.

At this time, there is not much information about the collision; but reportedly
a mother and daughter walked away from the accident and were said to be
unhurt.

The direction in which the vehicle was traveling and what might have caused
the accident are not yet known, as efforts to make contact with Traffic
Department head Elson Quammie proved futile.

However, as more information comes to hand, REAL News will keep our
audience informed.
