Change of candidate will not solve SMS’ problems when the issue is the ALP Administration, Simon says

The myriad issues facing St. Mary’s South cannot be corrected
merely by changing the Antigua Labour Party candidate – because
the problem is the entire administration headed by Prime Minister
Gaston Browne.

This is the opinion of Kelvin “Shugy” Simon, the United Progressive
Party candidate, who notes that the Administration is now trying to
solve all issues ahead of the October 24 by-election.

For almost 10 years, Simon notes, the people of St. Mary’s South
have been neglected – with no regular water supply, bad
infrastructure, and a dwindling farming community, including the
abandonment of the Cades Bay Pineapple Farm.

This decline took place under the stewardship of former Labour
Party candidate and minister of agriculture Samantha Marshall, he
adds.

However, Marshall resigned from the by-election race several weeks
ago, paving the way for her replacement, the former UPP member
Dwayne George.

Simon is of the opinion that changing the candidate will make little
difference, and he asks how a political “outsider” will be able to
change the culture of the Labour Government in a few short weeks.

According to Simon, the people of St. Mary’s South will no longer
accept the Labour Party’s culture of excuses and inaction – which
has held back the community and the country for far too long.
However, under a UPP Administration, and with his re-election to
the Lower House, he assures them that things would be much better
in the country and the constituency.

Therefore, Simon declares, it is time to restore hope and to find
solutions that will make St. Mary’s South and Antigua and Barbuda
better.

Meanwhile, at a press conference on October 2, Simon announced
that, in the next few days, he will roll out his plans and policies to
uplift the constituency.

Simon firmly believes that through private partnerships and
community mobilization, the people can achieve a great deal.

“With ongoing dialogue, a good plan that outlines our short-, mid-
and long-term priorities, and the commitment of the people, I

believe that we can achieve our fullest potential in St. Mary’s South,”
Simon states.
