Four in custody after firearms and ammo found in Swetes homes; residents call for proper border patrols

Four people found with illegal firearms on the weekend will likely
appear before the court this week on charges of illegal possession of
ammunition and guns.

On Saturday, January 3, the Police arrested these four after search
warrants were executed at their homes.

Reports say that officers went to two homes in Swetes with signed
warrants and conducted searches there.

During the operation, the lawmen reportedly found two firearms
and several rounds of ammunition, and the occupants of both homes
were taken into custody for questioning.

As investigations are being conducted in these matters, many people
are asking where these illegal guns and ammunition could be
coming from, and they are calling for proper patrols of the country’s
coastlines.

Some suggest that the airplane meant to serve as Barbuda Airways –
but later given to the Defence Force – should be used for air patrols
to stop the illegal importation of guns and ammunition – if, indeed,
they are being brought in via this route.

Others says that, instead of Attorney-General Steadroy “Cutie “
Benjamin comparing the local crime rate with other countries as a
means of determining its level, he should provide law-enforcement
officers with the resources to fight crime and thwart the importation
of illegal firearms and ammunition.
