Sunday’s daylight robbery by masked gunmen follows death of beating victim in hospital

A brazen daylight robbery took place at about 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, at the Diamond Ice Supermarket in Ottos.

Reports say the Police were alerted to the crime at approximately 3:15 p.m.

A source tells REAL News that three masked men, dressed in dark clothing, drove up to the business place in a silver Toyota Vitz.  While one remained with the vehicle, the source claims, the other two, allegedly armed, went inside and held up the two cashiers.

After they collected the cash, the bandits ran outside and got back into the car, with all three making their escape via Rose Street.

It is not known how much money they took in the heist.

Meanwhile, a 34-year-old man, Rodney Piper, has become the country’s latest murder victim.

Piper, according to reports, sustained a severe beating from a group of young men – allegedly over a phone belonging to the him – and was admitted to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre on Sept 9.

He reportedly remained in a coma, but succumbed to cardiac arrest just before noon on Sunday.

Sources allege to REAL News that no one had been charged, to date, for the assault on Rodney – although other persons say the Police know the identity of the perpetrators.

With Rodney’s passing, however, it is expected that his attackers will be facing murder charges.
