Tourism Authority to team up with local wellness ambassadors to make World Wellness Weekend quite an event, Louard says

In a couple of days, Antigua and Barbuda will mark the universal
celebration of “World Wellness Weekend” by hosting several
activities.

Laurie Louard, who works with the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism
Authority, says that, as part of the wellness committee, the agency
has teamed up with Antigua and Barbuda’s World Wellness
Weekend ambassadors to celebrate the event.

Activities will run from Friday, September 15, to Sunday, September
17, and form part of a global initiative in which almost 200 countries
and 8,000 locations worldwide are celebrating, Louard says.

Antigua and Barbuda will be doing its part by hosting Wellness
Ambassador Tricia Greenaway, the founder and CEO of Wellness
Footprints Antigua, and Alejandro Lejo, a wellness and spa
professional and sustainability patron at Jumby Bay.

Louard says the weekend activities are also a way of highlighting
what the country has on offer in terms of wellness tourism, ahead of
January 2024, when a period of time has been lined up for wellness
retreats.

According to Louard, starting this Friday there will be Tai Chi
exercises at Darkwood Beach at 7 a.m., followed at 5 p.m. by sunset
yoga. There will also be some wellness talks on that day in seven of
the Nation’s schools, along with tree-planting exercises at these
institutions.

He says that, on Saturday, the activities move to the Martello Tower
on the sister-island, with soca-robics and Tony the Tiger at 10 a.m.

There will also be an activity taking place at a gym in English
Harbour on Saturday.

Louard says the events are free, and he is therefore inviting
everyone to come out to be a part of the activities – not just this
weekend, but going forward, because, he says, a healthy lifestyle
should be a way of life.

He says that persons who are already part of a hiking group can take
pictures and post them to the Tourism Authority’s social media
pages, so that visitors can see what Antigua and Barbuda has to offer
in terms of wellness tourism.

Antigua’s female astronaut Keisha Schahaff and the 2023 Queen of
Carnival and Jaycees Caribbean Queen Show-winner, Ischikelle
Corbin, will take part in the activities this weekend, Louard says.
