Condition of the health infrastructure is an indictment on Sir Molwyn and PS Samantha Marshall, Senator Joseph says

The poor condition of the country’s health infrastructure is an
indictment on the Minister of Health, Sir Molwyn Joseph, and
Parliamentary Secretary Samantha Marshall, says Senator Johnathan
Joseph.

Senator Joseph, the United Progressive Party’s caretaker in St.
Mary’s North, says no meaningful improvement has been seen
during Sir Molwyn’s tenure, and Marshall’s addition to the ministry
has not produced any positive outcome.

Accordingly, he says that Sir Molwyn should tender his resignation
and Marshall should follow his lead.

Senator Joseph admits to being amazed that Marshall is putting
herself up for re-election in St. Mary’s South when two clinics in that
constituency have been allowed to close on her watch.

Weeks ago, REAL News reported that the kitchen at the public
hospital, the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, had to be closed due to
an infestation of rats.

Sources subsequently told our Newsroom the infestation apparently
had been spread via the air conditioning ducts and electrical

conduits – likely the result of inadequate maintenance and poor
sanitation.

Meanwhile, a resident says the hospital is unable to offer certain
services, at present, on account of equipment being out of service.
The woman says that on Monday, July 10, ahead of her usual
outpatient check-up, she went to the hospital to have some blood
work done, as is usual.

However, on this occasion, she claims, she was told the lab was
unable to do the majority of the tests – including one to monitor her
kidneys – and she would have to seek the services of a private lab.
The only test she was able to get done, she says, was the complete
blood count (CBC).

The woman is unemployed and has been sick for some time, and so
she depends on the services of the hospital, which are cheaper, she
says.
