Recent drug interdiction at the airport nets over $60,000.00 worth of marijuana, police investigations underway

Over $60,000 worth of marijuana was seized by the police during a recent drug interdiction operation conducted at the V.C. Bird International Airport.

Reports are that officers from the Narcotics Department and K9 Unit went on duty at the airport about 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday (April 19) where a joint drug interdiction exercise was conducted with assistance from the Customs Enforcement Unit.

Further reports are that a search was carried out at the LIAT cargo shed, during which one brown cardboard box was searched and 11 large vacuumed sealed packages with marijuana was discovered.

The substance reportedly weighs 10 ½ pounds with an estimated street value of $63,000.

Reports are that the box along with the substance was taken to Police Headquarters for further investigation purposes.
