Watts accuses three Ministers of Agriculture of failing the Nation and sitting Minister of destroying the pineapple sector

A farmer-turned-politician continues to decry the neglect of the agriculture sector and the country on a whole under the Gaston Browne Administration.

The United Progressive Party’s Candidate for St. George, Algernon “Serpent” Watts, says Antigua and Barbuda is in a bad state, with poverty being at an all-time high.

The Browne Administration, he says, does not care about farmers and the contributions they make towards food security, and more could be done if the Minister of Agriculture had any interest in moving the sector forward.

Watts points to several agencies on which the sector relies, including the Ministry responsible for lands and the Ministry responsible for the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA), saying they are guilty of killing agriculture.

Not even the necessary commodity of water is being supplied to farmers on a daily basis, Watts says; and they, too, are at the mercy of the water-rationing schedule, which is not good for their business.

The UPP Candidate says that all three Ministers of Agriculture under the Browne Administration have failed the Nation.  And, further, he says that, under the current Minister, the pineapple sector has been destroyed.
