Police conduct probe into drug finds at the seaport
Police are probing the discovery of over a quarter million dollars’ worth of illegal drugs at the country’s port in two separate drug finds within 24 hours.
The police in a press release say that close to $300,000 worth of marijuana were recently seized at the Deep Water Harbour during a joint drug operation, between the law enforcers and the Customs Task Force.
Reports are that on Monday (October 10), both agencies carried out a search at the main seaport and discovered a barrel with 17 vacuumed-sealed packages containing the drugs with a weight of
16 ½ pounds.
The marijuana carries an estimated street value of $99,000.
However, less than 24 hours later another 33 pounds of marijuana were discovered at the same port in a similar method of concealment. That find has an estimated street value of $198,000.
The substances were seized and taken to the police station; while further investigations are ongoing into both incidents.
