No confidentiality breached by break-in at AIDS Secretariat, says Programme Director, since all information is coded

AIDS Programme Director Delcora Williams is seeking to allay fears that persons’ HIV status could be made public after a break-in at the Secretariat last week.

An intruder breached the Long Street building by prying open a window and stole a black HP laptop among other items. However, Williams says the computer was new and contained no information.

She assures clients of the Secretariat that their private information is secured in a heavily protected area.

Williams says the Ministry of Works has since conducted work on the Secretariat to reinforce the windows and other areas of the building.

Meanwhile, the Programme Director says the recent incident should not stop persons from learning their status or contacting the Secretariat, since names are not listed; rather, information is coded to protect residents’ identity.
