Driver who allegedly plowed into four cyclists is charged and will appear in Traffic Court this week

Police have finally charged the driver responsible for mauling four national cyclists on Mother’s Day, May 8.

Officers say they have charged 39-year-old Kenyatta Benjamin of Union Road, Hatton, with dangerous driving.

Benjamin was arrested and charged on Wednesday, May 18, and is due before the Traffic Court this week.

The four athletes were training on the Sir George Walter Highway when Benjamin allegedly ran a red light and collided with them, one after the other.

Three of the cyclists ended up in the hospital for treatment, with Andre Simon suffering the most severe injuries. He remains in a coma, in the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital.
