Antigua and Barbuda’s tsunami-preparedness plans will be tested during an exercise to be held in conjunction with other territories.
The National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) will be participating in the annual “Caribe Wave Tsunami Exercise” on March 10.
As a result, NODS will be sending a mock-tsunami warning message via the App that it has been encouraging residents to download on their cell phones.
The message will begin with the words “EXERCISE!! EXERCISE!! EXERCISE!!” and end the same way.
NODS is reminding residents that “this will be an exercise and not a real scenario.” However, officials are hoping that schools, businesses and others will use this as an opportunity to test their tsunami-evacuation plans.
