Second fire victim undergoing treatment at hospital while death of female remains under investigation

The Police have now confirmed that a 61-year-old man was also injured during an early-morning house fire that appears  to have claimed the life of a middle-aged Hispanic woman on on Wednesday, November 10.

According to the Police, officers from the Fire Department responded to the scene on Holly Road during the early hours of the morning, at about 3 a.m.

Reports are that firefighters met the 51’x 42’ wooden and concrete structure ablaze, and they quickly sprung into action to extinguish it. 

They had to use force to gain access into the building to rescue the occupants, reports add.

The body of a female, believed to be in her fifties, was discovered lying motionless on a bedroom floor. The Police say that all efforts to resuscitate her proved  unsuccessful. 

A medical doctor arrived on the scene and pronounced the body dead at approximately 5:11 a.m.

The body was then removed to Straffies Funeral Home.

The lawmen are continuing their investigations into the circumstances which led to the woman’s death and a post-mortem examination will have to be done on the body.

Fire officials are investigating the cause of the inferno.

The male occupant, in the meantime, is currently receiving  treatment at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.
