The UWI Five Islands confers honorary degrees on two outstanding nationals during second graduation exercises

Two distinguished nationals have been honoured by the University of the West Indies (UWI) for work in their respective fields,   sports and medicine.

Sir Anderson “Andy” Roberts and Dr. George Mansoor were awarded honorary doctorates on Sunday, October 10, during the university’s annual graduation ceremony at its Five Islands Campus.

An honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) Sir Andy was conferred on Sir Andy, while Dr Mansoor received an honorary Doctor of Science (DSc) degree.

Dr. Mansoor is a physician, an educator, and entrepreneur, while Sir Andy is a distinguished former West Indies Cricket fast bowler and sporting icon.

UWI has indicated that both men were honoured for their outstanding contributions to local, regional and international developments.

The graduation ceremony was held virtually, on account of the COVID-19 pandemic, and was the second such exercise to be held at that campus since it opened in 2019.

It was the first in a series of 13 graduation ceremonies across all of The UWI’s five campuses during which several other regional luminaries will be honoured for their contributions.
