‘BACK PACK’ VENTURE BY YOUNG NATIONAL AIMS TO PROMOTE LITERACY AMONG CHILDREN AND HELP PARENTS HARD-HIT BY PANDEMIC
A young national is aiming to promote literacy across Antigua and Barbuda, while assisting low- to middle-income families. She is doing this through the donation of packed backpacks to be used for the new school term in September.
This gesture is also timely, as many parents have been struggling due to the pandemic, and so Shushanna Ambrose is mounting a collection drive to get school supplies.
The initiative, dubbed “Scrubs Back Pack,” will run until the beginning of August.
Ambrose, the daughter of cricketing legend Sir Curtly Ambrose, says she is hoping to make the event an annual one.
She is inviting persons to donate a range of school supplies, including books, pencils, erasers, sharpeners and pens. Additionally, Ambrose is soliciting pandemic supplies to include face masks, which will also be donated.
