LOVELL TELLS LOCALS TO GUARD AGAINST LAND LOSS TO FOREIGN INTERESTS

The Political Leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Harold Lovell, says Antigua and Barbuda must be preserved for the hard-working men and women of this Nation.

Lovell says there appears to be a trend in which foreign interests are being given priority to own assets here, especially the land. If the people do not seriously address this issue, he says, we will be robbed of the patrimony left by our forbearers.

Last week, the Prime Minister warned that Government would reclaim lands allocated to farmers if they do not cultivate them, and Lovell says this threat is unfortunate.

He says the hard times on which many of them have fallen are the reason many farmers have been unable to continue their businesses. And, instead of offering relief, PM Gaston Browne wants to further deprive these persons of making a living, Lovell charges.

The UPP Political Leader believes that the land where the prime minister now operates his farm should have been made available to other farmers who have been applying their trade for years.

However, Browne appears to be on a land grab, Lovell says.
