The Minister received his first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, along with his colleagues, two weeks ago.  However, health authorities have repeatedly advised that the drug does not prevent a person from contracting or shedding the virus; it is expected only to prevent serious complications and death.

Meanwhile, the Government is hoping that its vaccination programme will be verysuccessfuland avoid fatalities among COVID patients.

More and more people are showing an interest in inoculation since the programme had its public roll-out last Monday, March 1.

At present, the Government says it is focusing on the most vulnerable residents and the elderly. Two days were initially devoted to vaccination of persons 65 and older, but that initiative has beenextended to this Thursday, March 11.

In the meantime, a bus service will be made available to take elderly persons to the vaccination centre located at the Jennings Primary School.

Officials say the bus will operate on the hour at respective bus stops in Urlings, Johnsons Point, Crabbe Hill, Bolans, English Harbour, Liberta and Falmouth from 9 a.m.
