A 24-year-old man being held on remand at His Majesty’s Prison is receiving medical treatment at hospital after an incident on Sunday that prompted an immediate response from prison officers.

Jermaine Nicholas of All Saints was rushed to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre following the incident. Authorities have not released further details regarding his current condition.

Nicholas is on remand in connection with the fatal stabbing of 29-year-old Jahmarley Pierre, who died on the afternoon of March 25 after being stabbed during a confrontation near the All Saints traffic lights. Pierre was transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre by emergency responders, where he was later pronounced dead. Nicholas was subsequently charged and remanded to His Majesty’s Prison as the legal proceedings against him continue.

The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda has not issued a formal statement on Sunday’s incident at the time of publication.
