A resident of Vivian Richards Street is counting his losses after thieves broke into his home overnight and made off with a mobile phone, a speaker, and cash — gaining entry through a bedroom window in a method that is becoming increasingly common across the island.

A man reported that thieves entered his residence sometime between Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. Police investigations revealed that the intruders gained access by removing four louvre panes from a bedroom window.

Among the items reported stolen were a Samsung Galaxy A06 cellular phone valued at EC$450, a speaker valued at EC$220, and EC$350 in cash — bringing the total value of items taken to EC$1,020.

Forensic officers have been called in to process the scene.

The break-in is one of several property crimes recorded across Antigua and Barbuda over the past week, adding to a pattern that residents and law enforcement alike are watching with growing concern. Householders are reminded to secure louvre windows with additional fasteners or grilles, as the removal of louvre panes remains one of the most frequently used methods of forced entry by burglars across the island.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact the nearest police station or call Crimestoppers anonymously at 800-TIPS (8477).
