A police officer is receiving medical treatment at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre after suffering serious injuries in a road collision while on duty on Monday afternoon.
Emergency responders rushed the officer to hospital after a collision involving a police motorcycle and a vehicle on Factory Road, near Tranquility Park Cemetery. The officer, who was reportedly on duty at the time, suffered serious injuries after being thrown from the motorcycle.
The officer was transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre for treatment as police investigate the incident.
The condition of the officer had not been officially disclosed at the time of publication. The identity of the driver of the other vehicle involved and the circumstances that led to the collision remain under active investigation by the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda.
The crash comes during a particularly difficult period for the Force, which is also mourning the passing of Sergeant Philmore Patrick, a 39-year veteran who died on Sunday.
The public is being asked to keep the injured officer and his family in their thoughts and prayers. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
Anyone with information about the collision is encouraged to contact the Traffic Department or the nearest police station.
