The Antiguan business community is mourning the passing of Lawrence “Larry” Gonsalves, a respected businessman whose impact on those around him extended far beyond the commercial sphere, touching the lives of friends, colleagues, and the many people who came to regard him as a mentor and trusted presence in the community.

The West Indies Oil Company Ltd. was among the first to pay formal tribute, describing Gonsalves as a respected member of the business community and a mentor to many. “The Directors, Management and Staff of West Indies Oil Co Ltd express our condolences to the family and friends on the passing of Lawrence ‘Larry’ Gonsalves,” the company said in a statement.

While Gonsalves was known for his involvement in the fuel retail sector, WIOC noted that his impact reached far beyond business. “A man who was respected by many and loved by all who knew him. More than a service station operator, he was a friend and mentor to many,” the company’s statement read.

WIOC extended its thoughts and prayers to his family and loved ones, saying his contributions and guidance will be remembered by those whose lives he touched.

Gonsalves was regarded as a prominent businessman whose presence in the community spanned many years, earning him widespread respect and lasting friendships.

His passing comes during a period in which Antigua and Barbuda has said farewell to several pillars of its business and civic community in recent weeks, including Sir Aziz Hadeed, Sir Dr. Cuthwin Lake, and tourism pioneer Ted Isaac. Each loss is a reminder of the generation of builders whose dedication and service helped shape the nation that exists today.

Funeral arrangements for Lawrence “Larry” Gonsalves had not been announced at the time of publication. The family requests the prayers and condolences of the community during this difficult time.
