Police increase mobile patrols – and effect arrests – in attempt to prevent criminal activity and increase residents’ sense of security

Several people have found themselves in the proverbial hot water coming out
of routine mobile patrols by the Police.

During the exercises, a Cedar Grove man was arrested on suspicion of
robbery; a Villa man was arrested on suspicion of house break-in and larceny;
and a Willikies resident was arrested for threatening language. They were all
transported to the St. John’s Police Station pending further investigations.

Reports say that lawmen, including officers from the Criminal Investigations
Department (CID), conducted patrols in the district of St. John’s and its
outskirts earlier this week. Stops were made in Villa, The Point, Yorks, St.
John’s City, Grays Farm, Bendals, Bathlodge, Creekside, Golden Grove, Clare
Hall, and Marble Hill.

Other areas, including Weatherills, Cedar Grove, Langfords, Friars Hill Road,
and Browne’s Avenue also saw heightened police presence.
Generally, these patrols were conducted between 8:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.
The Police are reportedly increasing such activities to avert criminal activity,
which has increased significantly over the past year, prompting fearful
residents to call for more officers on the roadways.
