Complaint of wounding leads cops to stash of cash in alleged offender’s vehicle

Three separate wounding incidents – one of which led the Police to
seize a quantity of US and EC currency from a man’s vehicle – are
being investigated.

Reports say that a Tindale Road woman telephoned the Criminal
Investigations Department (CID) and complained that she had been
wounded in the face and feet by a man with whom she has a
relationship in an incident that took place on Wednesday, March 20,
on Old Parham Road.

Allegedly, the victim sustained these injuries as a result of being
punched repeatedly by the offender, who wears several rings.

Reports say the woman was driving from west to east on Old
Parham Road and stopped in the vicinity of Top Ranking when she
saw the alleged offender.

An argument reportedly ensued between them, at which time the
man dragged her out of her car and began to beat her about the
body.

The woman subsequently had to be transported to the Sir Lester
Bird Medical Centre for treatment.

A search was carried out for the alleged offender and he was found
in Skerritts Pasture.

During a search of his brown Lexus motorcar, a red shopping bag
containing a quantity of US and EC currency was found.

He was arrested on suspicion of wounding and taken to the St.
John’s Police Station, along with the money.

Officers from the Proceeds of Crime Unit were informed about the
discovery, and inquiries into how the man came into possession of
these large sums of cash will be conducted.

In another incident, a doctor from the Emergency Room telephoned
the CID and reported that there was a young man at the hospital
with a wound to his head.

Officers left for the medical facility, where they met and interviewed
a 23-year-old Bolans man.

Reports claim that the victim was on his jobsite at the former
Halcyon hotel at Dickenson Bay, at about 2:20 p.m. on March 20,
when he was attacked by a young man he knows as “Yankee.”

It is alleged that Yankee struck him in the head with an unknown
object which caused his injury.

The wound was not life threatening and he received two sutures to
the back of his head to close it. He was also kept overnight at the
hospital for observation.

In the meantime, a Tyrells Pasture woman made a report to the
Liberta Police Station that her 16-year-old son, a suspected mental
patient, had wounded her with a stone, and she was requesting
assistance.

Police met the teenager in the company of his mother and the
allegation was put to him – at which time he reportedly became
aggressive and advanced towards the constable and sergeant.

While the officers were in the process of detaining the teenager, it is
alleged that he attempted to bite and kick them several times.

After he was detained and was being escorted to the vehicle, reports
say that two dogs attacked the officers. As a result, the sergeant was
forced to discharge three rounds from his service pistol in an
attempt to neutralize the ferocious animals.

The alleged offender was then taken to the Liberta Police Station,
but later released into the custody and care of his mother and father,
in good health, pending further investigations.

Reportedly the victim was advised to consult a doctor for injuries
she sustained.
