Youth, 18, is granted bail after being charged with larceny of Peterson’s vehicle and receiving goods

The young man who is alleged to have stolen the vehicle of
retired educator Reginald Peterson two Wednesdays ago has
been granted bail after being arrested and charged.
 
Mitchy Spencer Jr. of Union Road, Hatton, was granted bail in the
sum of $30,000, with a $3,000 cash component, after his first
appearance in the St. John’s Magistrates’ Court.
The teenager’s next court appearance has been set for May 15.

Spencer,18, faces charges of larceny of Peterson’s vehicle and of
receiving.
 
It is alleged that he acquired over 100 items – including food,
cleaning agents, clothing, medicine and electronics –among other
things meant for Peterson’s Liberta shop, which had been in the
vehicle at the time it was stolen.


The items have an estimated value of $16,938.15.
 
The Police recovered the stolen vehicle in the Cassada Gardens
area on February 28.
 
Peterson’s grey Toyota Allion motorcar, A65239, was stolen on
February 21 as he was delivering food to the needy on Hawkins
Drive.
 
Four youth, including Spencer, had been taken into custody on
suspicion of larceny and were assisting the police with this
investigation.
 
The other suspects ranged in age from a 25-year-old Federation
Road, Grays Farm, man, to a 16-year-old Hatton youth and a 17-
year-old from Cassada Gardens.


The former Industrial Arts teacher also had his keys and cell
phones inside the vehicle, with one phone subsequently found in
the possession of a vagrant in the vicinity of the Stables
Nightclub.
