Victims lose cash and jewelry in separate robberies involving a knife and cutlasses

Two robberies are being investigated, one of which landed a victim
in the hospital.

According to reports, a St. John’s Street man was accosted at
knifepoint by an unknown young man, who relieved the victim of his
gold chain and Samsung S6 cellular phone valued at $1,000.
The man reported the robbery to the Criminal Investigations
Department (CID).

It is alleged that he was walking near a cook shop on St. George
Street when the assailant confronted and robbed him.

The perpetrator is described as about 5’6” in height and was
wearing a white vest, black shorts, and a pair of black slippers. He
reportedly wore braided hair and spoke with an Antiguan accent.
This offence reportedly occurred at about 1:30 a.m. on November
17.

Meanwhile, a 911 operator telephoned CID and reported that there
had been a robbery in Cassada Gardens No. 5, at about 9:49 p.m. on
Friday, November 17.

As a result of the incident the victim had to be treated in the
Emergency Room of the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.
Reports say the victim was walking in the neighbourhood when,
upon reaching the junction at Cassada Gardens Drive, he felt
someone hold onto his shirt.

He reportedly was thrown to the ground, after which three men
then grabbed his fanny-pack containing $400 in cash, his credit
union bank book, and other Government ID’s.

Each of the robbers was armed with a cutlass, the victim alleged; so,
in an effort to defend himself, he held onto a cutlass and was
wounded on the left thumb and middle finger and the palm of his
right hand.

These wounds, according to doctors, are superficial.
The three assailants were said to be dark in complexion, about 5’3″
in height, of a slim build, and were not wearing shirts.
A search of the area was carried out for anyone fitting the
description of the perpetrators, but was without success.
