Police investigating cadet’s accusation of rape, sources say, but admit they expect nothing to come out of it
Allegations of rape have been leveled at a member of the law-enforcement services, and is said to be under Police investigation.
Reportedly, a school-aged girl, a member of the Cadet Corps (core), has accused a soldier of committing the act. Cadets are usually between the ages of 12 and 17 years.
It is alleged that the incident occurred as the man was taking her home in a vehicle belonging to the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force.
Another source tells REAL News that she is not surprised by the allegation. She says similar accusations have been made in the past; however, no prosecution usually comes out of them.
Earlier this year, there were reports of sex parties being held on premises associated with senior officers, to which young female soldiers were invited and where, some allege, they were exploited.
However, while reports said there were investigations and subsequent discipline, the matter was dealt with internally, sources say.
