CERTIFICATION OF SKILLED WORKERS IS A PLANK IN THE UPP’S EDUCATION PLATFORM, SAYS SENATOR LEWIS

Senator Richard Lewis, the United Progressive Party’s Candidate for St. John’s Rural West, says more attention needs to be paid to the certification of skilled workers.

Lewis says the Ministry of Education wasted millions of dollars on the E-book initiative, and this could have been better spent on investing in training programmes for the youth.

He says the “squandered” funds could have been used to advance the Antigua and Barbuda Institute of Continuing Education (ABICE) and the National Training Agency (NTA) in a drive to certify the country’s skilled workers.

Senator Lewis notes that the United Progressive Party has already formulated plans to tackle this issue.

According to Lewis, the Party also believes the focus should be shifted to the National Vocational Qualification and the Caribbean Vocational Qualification certifications.
