Two contrasting results lit up the Seatons Sporting Complex on Tuesday night as the Antigua Generators/Cool & Smooth Village Netball League served up an entertaining double-header — a pulsating contest that came down to the wire, followed by a one-sided demolition that sent a clear message to the rest of the Female Division.
Flyballers Rally to Topple All Saints
In the opening fixture, Grays Green Flyballers showed character and composure to come from behind and claim a hard-fought 37-33 victory over All Saints United in what proved to be the evening's most compelling contest.
Goal shoot Krizia Duncan was the driving force for the Flyballers, converting 19 of her 33 attempts, while goal attack Kizzy Hughes provided consistent support with 18 goals from 32 attempts. Together, the pair supplied the firepower that saw Flyballers claw their way to a winning start in the Antigua and Barbuda Netball Association-hosted competition.
All Saints United gave a spirited account of themselves and will rue missed opportunities. Goal shoot Zhanira Pereira was outstanding in defeat, converting 23 of her 31 attempts in a performance that deserved better reward, while goal attack Karol Carlton was near-flawless with 10 from 11. Despite those efforts, the combination proved just not enough to deny a determined Flyballers outfit.
Stingers Make a Statement Against Willikies
If the first game was close, the feature match was anything but. Potters Defante Stingers were utterly dominant against Willikies, recording a resounding 29-5 triumph that announced their intentions for the season in the clearest possible terms.
Tashana Bloomfield led the charge for the Stingers with 14 goals from 19 attempts, while Molefi Joseph added 11 from 22. Adina Andre and Michael Buxton each chipped in with two points to round out the scoring.
Willikies managed only five goals across the entire encounter. Summer Buckley was their standout performer, sinking four of her five attempts, while N'Zae Williams added one from four as the team struggled to find rhythm against a well-organised Stingers defence.
