The Antigua and Barbuda Football Association has named D. Zorol Barthley as its new General Secretary, with the appointment taking effect today. The move comes at a critical juncture for football in the twin-island nation, as the ABFA ramps up preparations for the upcoming Concacaf Under-20 Championship and pursues a wider agenda of administrative modernisation and strategic growth.

Barthley is no stranger to the upper echelons of Caribbean sports administration. A former West Indies Under-19 captain, he has built an impressive résumé spanning cricket governance, event management, sports tourism, and insurance. His past roles include Chief Cricket Operations Officer at the West Indies Cricket Board, President of the Antigua & Barbuda Cricket Association, and Deputy Chairman of the Caribbean Premier League Tournament Committee. He has also served as a Sports Tourism Consultant to the Government of Antigua & Barbuda and as a player agent in the Indian Premier League. He currently chairs PIC Insurance Company Ltd.

ABFA President Ickford Roberts praised the appointment, calling Barthley a proven Caribbean sports executive whose experience and operational capabilities would be invaluable to the advancement of football in the country.

Barthley himself struck an ambitious tone upon taking the role. He pointed to football’s potential to positively impact young people, communities, and national development, and pledged to work with all stakeholders to strengthen the administration of the game and position Antigua & Barbuda for sustainable regional and international success.

His near-term focus will centre on bolstering the national Under-20 programme, strengthening relationships with clubs and stakeholders, securing commercial partnerships, and opening new pathways for youth involvement in football administration.

The ABFA described the appointment as a significant step forward in the transformation and growth of the sport across Antigua and Barbuda.
