Police are investigating two separate incidents of business break-ins reported in different parts of Antigua within days of each other, involving a building under renovation in the heart of the city and a convenience store on Buckley Line.

Cross and Nevis Streets: Lumber Taken Without Force

In the first incident, a building under renovation at Cross and Nevis Streets was reportedly entered by an unknown individual who removed a quantity of lumber from the premises. Investigating officers found no signs of forced entry, leading authorities to believe access may have been gained using a key.

The quantity and value of the stolen lumber had not yet been determined at the time of the report.

The absence of forced entry raises particular concern, suggesting the perpetrator may have had prior knowledge of the building or access to a key — possibilities that investigators are expected to pursue as enquiries continue.

In the second incident, a superette on Buckley Line was broken into in the early hours of June 22. The intruder or intruders allegedly forced entry through secured entry points and removed a cash register drawer, a quantity of lighters, and other items from the premises.

CCTV footage was reviewed as part of the investigation, and a search of the surrounding area was conducted. However, the stolen items were not recovered, and their total value remains to be ascertained.

Investigations into both matters are continuing. The incidents add to a growing pattern of property crime being recorded across Antigua in recent weeks, including previous break-ins at establishments in Fort Road, Belmont, All Saints, and Lower All Saints Road.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is urged to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913 or 462-3914, or call Crimestoppers anonymously at 800-TIPS (8477).
