Anthony Athill nominated to fill the post of information commissioner, prime minister reveals in Parliament

After more than two years’ vacancy, the post of information commissioner
should be filled very shortly, according to Prime Minister Gaston Browne.
In Parliament on Friday, May 10, Browne announced that Anthony Athill has
been nominated to take up the position.

Browne says Athill’s nomination was made by the Cabinet and claimed that
Governor-General Sir Rodney Williams and Leader of the Opposition Jamale
Pringle had both been notified of the decision.

Athill’s appointment will require a resolution of the Parliament, which
Browne says will be undertaken at the next sitting of the Lower House.

That was Prime Minister Gaston Browne.

During “Questions to the Prime Minister,” Opposition MP Richard Lewis asked
when this very important post, which falls under the Freedom of Information
Act, would be filled, since the PM had announced during the last sitting that
several qualified persons were being considered.
