Nut Grove teen succumbs to injuries sustained in car crash; driver of the vehicle reportedly flees the scene after collision

A teenager, who was among the passengers in a vehicle, is the country’s latest road fatality, while the Police search for the driver, who allegedly fled the scene after the collision on All Saints Road.

This morning, May 19, a press release from STRATCOM – the Police communications department – confirmed the death of 18-year-old Keane Gregoire of Nut Grove.

Gregoire reportedly was one of two passengers in a grey Toyota BB, which was in a single-vehicle accident, at around 2 a.m. on Thursday, May 18.

It is alleged that the vehicle was traveling from south to north at a high speed, when the driver apparently lost control.  Reportedly, the car skidded off to the western side of the road before colliding with a concrete column.

Officers from the St. John’s Fire Station were deployed to the scene, where the Jaws of Life were used to remove Gregoire – along with the other passenger, a 19-year-old from Freeman’s Village – from the wreck.

The two, suffering from various injuries, were transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre by the Emergency Medical Service (EMS).

According to the police statement, Gregoire was pronounced dead at the hospital on Friday, May 19, shortly after midnight.

Officers are now appealing to anyone with information on the fatal accident to contact the Traffic Department at 462-0125 or at Police Headquarters.

A further appeal is being made for the driver of the vehicle to turn himself or herself in at any police station without delay.
