Lovell proposes Israel’s model of government assistance to improve local agriculture and enhance food security

A better plan, with more government assistance and guidance, must be put into place for the agriculture sector, says Harold Lovell, Political Leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP).

Lovell says that farmers and Government working together to develop this sector is a better approach than having farmers struggling on their own to promote and expand their businesses.

To illustrate his point, he references a model used in Israel, where farmers receive government assistance to meet their quota in a sector that is much more crop-diversified.

This is a model that Antigua and Barbuda could adopt to offer greater assistance to farmers and to guarantee food security for the Nation, he says.
