Workers’ Union stands with former LIAT and CAS workers in a tangible way: by distribution of supermarket vouchers

The union representing former LIAT (1974) Ltd. employees and Caribbean Airport Services (CAS) workers continues to offer assistance to the many who are still struggling and unemployed.

These persons will benefit from a gift-voucher initiative undertaken by the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) in partnership with Billy’s Food Mart.

Reports say the initiative was conceived by the Union’s Management and Executive Committee, and it is aimed at bringing relief to members of the Union who have been unable to secure new employment.

“The gift voucher has a value of EC$200 for the purchase of food, as well as other household items, and is redeemable at Billy’s Food Mart on Friars Hill Road,” the Union says.

David Massiah, ABWU General Secretary, says the organisation is delighted to assist this cohort of members who have been particularly disadvantaged.

He is assuring the former workers of both companies that the Union will continue to stand with them in this difficult time.

“Even as we continue to advocate for their severance, we wish to empathize with them in a tangible way: hence the gift vouchers,” Massiah says.

The General Secretary also commends the management of Billy’s Food Mart for its willingness to partner with the Union on this initiative.

Eligible persons are asked to complete an online registration form available at www.abwunion.com and at Facebook/AntiguaBarbudaWorkersUnion.  Forms will also be available at the Union’s Headquarters on Lower Newgate Street.

The deadline for registration is April 5.
