Crossing guards sound the call, again, for Government to pay the risk allowance they deserve

Crossing guards have joined the list of disgruntled government workers who are trying to get the tools and protection required to do their jobs.

This morning, February 11, a female crossing guard called in to The Morning Bus Tea Show  and made a plea for the department’s risk allowance to be paid – a similar call being made by police officers and nurses.

The woman says the crossing guards met with former Education Minister Michael Browne on this matter; but she alleges that he was not willing to give consideration to their request.

Although some persons do not appreciate this reality, the woman points out that there are risks associated with the job.

Unlike police officers, the crossing guards do have insurance.  But the woman says there are several other issues affecting them, including a proper pay increase.
