Sunday-afternoon drowning claims life of Sweres youth, Police report

The Police are currently investigating an apparent drowning incident that took place at Pigeon Point Beach.

It was reported that at around 4:20 pm on Sunday, January 23, 23-year old Jahmali Smith of Swetes, along with other close relatives and friends, went to Pegion Point Beach to swim.

It was further reported that Smith went into the water, and some time after was simply not seen.

An immediate search was conducted in the area by the Police, with the assistance of the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force Coast Guard and the Antigua and Barbuda Search and Rescue(ABSAR).

The lifeless body of Smith was discovered floating in shallow water of the said beach around 11:23 p.m.

A doctor arrived on the scene and pronounced him dead shortly after 1 a.m. on Monday.

Further investigations are ongoing.
