PM BROWNE SETS DEADLINE ON MICHAEL BROWNE’S CANDIDACY AND LOOKS TO WRITE OFF ASOT MICHAEL AND COLIN JAMES FOR NEXT POLLS
With indications of early elections already given, Prime Minister Gaston Browne is now hinting at changes to the Antigua Labour Party ticket in a number of constituencies, including All Saints West.
While Michael Browne is the sitting parliamentary representative for that area, he was charged, last year, with serious offences and currently has a matter pending before the High Court.
If the All Saints West MP does not have this matter settled by the end of the year, PM Browne says, he will have to be replaced.
For the second time in a week, Browne notes that a number of persons have shown interest in contesting the St. Peter constituency. One candidate looks favourable, he says, having produced a petition with 500 signatures to support his candidacy.
Accordingly, Browne also has some words of advice for the sitting MP, Asot Michael.
Meanwhile, it appears that Browne has no intention of retaining Colin James as the candidate for All Saints East and St. Luke.
James lost twice in that constituency, and Browne says that other persons have expressed an interest in running on his party’s ticket.
Leader of the Opposition Jamale Pringle will be contesting the All Saints East and St. Luke seat for the United Progressive Party (UPP).
Newcomer Tevaughn “Peter Redz” Harriette is running on the UPP ticket in St. Peter, while another first-timer, Anthony Smith, Jr., will contest for the Party in All Saints West.
