ANTIGUA & BARBUDA TOPS THE WORLD IN ACTIVE COVID CASES PER CAPITA

Prime Minister Gaston Browne once again is blaming citizens and residents, claiming their lack of vigilance is responsible for the incidence of COVID-19 deaths and increase in cases.

On a per capita basis, Browne says, Antigua and Barbuda has the highest number of active cases in the world.

Browne is again advocating that those who are able to be vaccinated should do so in order to save lives.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister says that Government has secured commitments from other states to provide Antigua and Barbuda with over 100,000 vaccines, and some have already been received.

He says that a shipment from Russia is expected on island this weekend, and he is urging residents to avail themselves of this drug, which, he says, is as efficient as those developed in the USA and the UK.

Meanwhile, Browne says that the population getting vaccinated is vital for the country to rebound economically. He adds that if persons refuse to take the jab it could severely impact the tourism sector.

Reportedly, threats have been made by some medical students that they may not return for the new school semester in September if cases continue to rise here.

Browne made these remarks at the ceremony marking the arrival of 24,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine through the COVAX mechanism.
